Weekend Upgrade: #FATWHITETHUNDERSNOW -- or Party Bus goes to Jackson, NH

February 23, 2017

After years of road trips to the Poconos we finally decided to try something new / bigger / better. Thanks to the generosity of Janice, Richard, and Mandy, our crew enjoyed a lovely long weekend in the cozy town of Jackson, NH.

Destination: Jackson, NH

FWL: Long-term off-site airport parking in Queens (Park Plus

Travelers: 7 adults

Arrived via: Plane (Jet Blue JFK - PWM)

Baggage: Carry-on

Local Transportation: Rental Car (Budget / Portland, ME / Ford Expedition EL 4WD)

Lodging: Robbins Family Condo

Meals: Combination of cooking and dining out

Main Attraction: Winter Sports

Day 1

Leave it to JetBlue to kick start our relaxation - Lagunitas Brewing Co. had a pop-up tent and was sampling 12th of Never Ale so deciding on a course of action after passing through security was pretty easy. And the light buzz made what was already a speedy flight feel even shorter. Already winning!

After an almost whoopsie daisy with a certain someone and their wallet, and upgrading the rental car to Extended Length, we were on our way. Ninety minutes later we entered Jackson and made two very important pit stops for groceries and booze before settling into the condo.

Groceries: Grant's Shop'n Save  At approximately $4/meal per person i think we done good! -- 9 US-302, Glen, NH

Liquor: NH Liquor & Wine Outlet  Black Bottle Blended Scotch and Woodford Reserve Bourbon -- 65 US-302, Glen, NH

Beer/Wine: Glen Beverage Company  After a generous free tasting from Moat Mountain Brewing Company we walked away with their Blueberry Ale and their India Pale Lager in addition to a sampler pack from Long Trail Brewing Co., and a Belgian or two. -- 779 US-302, Glen, NH

Dinner: Red Fox Bar & Grille  Standard pub fare, good tap list, classic country-tavern decor -- 49 NH-16, Jackson, NH

Day 2

One among us sadly has a broken toe at the moment so while the rest of us were running up and down the mountain Chris captured some pretty epic moments of his own with his camera.

Breakfast: A quick bowl of porridge at the house to stick to our bones and keep us warm (though in hindsight totally unnecessary because it was in the high 50s most of the day)

Mountain: Attitash Mountain Resort - excellent conditions!! 775 US-302, Bartlett, NH

Lunch: Ptarmigan's Pub - at the base of the mountain

Evening Activity: Sledding. Yes, slide down a hill and scream like a 10 year old sledding. Wheee!!
Dinner: Family style back at the condo (Roast chicken, Spinach Salad with Winter Citrus Vinaigrette, Garlic Roasted Broccoli, Pesto Macaroni  & Cheese, Bread Pudding) recipes to follow

Late Night Activity: Bang! A game similar to Mafia but better because you get to be a cowboy.

Day 3

With nowhere in particular to be on Sunday we decided to stay in for a leisurely breakfast, with the coffee grinder playing a pretty good stand-in for an alarm.

Breakfast: Mostly classic staples with a few extra treats (eggs, bacon, breakfast sausage, yogurt, fruit, buttermilk biscuits, maple-sweet potato hash, peanut butter pancakes) recipes to follow

Afternoon Activity: Snowshoeing around Mirror Lake - what a workout!

Evening Activity: More sledding of course :-)

Dinner: Thompson House Eatery - Polished american fare in a quaint farmhouse setting  -- 193 Main St, Jackson, NH

Post-dinner Activity: Monopoly - Danger Danger!

Day 4

All good things must come to an end :-(

Mandy and Kylie snuck out for an early cross-country run around the golf course and we tidied up the place before saying our goodbyes to NH. Until next time!!
